Aerospace Pilot Genetic Program

• After the Exodus, 2nd RSAB found a tremendous spread between the top 1% of pilots and the remainder.
• Training alone did not explain differences
• 'Mech, Infantry, and Vehicle pilots showed a more spread out distribution of skill
• Highly controversial decision was made to use the genetic material from the top pilots to start an artificial breeding program
• Technology is much like the Clan system with the exception that any 2nd RSAB individual (civilian or military personnel) may be entered.
• Program focusses on traits most beneficial for Aerospace piloting
• Training is still viewed as more important, but there is a recognition on the benefits of certain genetic traits
• Anyone showing aptitude will be given full opportunities to become a pilot
• No genetic modification is done except to correct specific defects that may develop
• Program is highly successful
• Children born via this program (using artificial wombs) are integrated with all other children
• Prejudice is severely punished
• Pilot washouts or those not choosing to become an aerospace pilot often become VTOL, hover tank, or Dropship pilots.
• Roughly 2/3rds of LAM pilots come from the genetic program
• All pilots produced must be able to bread and produce children naturally - requirement
• Statistical evidence was key to pushing the program through and maintaining it. Statistics do not back up attempting to breed any other type of warrior.
• Discovery of "Elemental" troops are causing 2nd RSAB to re-think this approach, but it is unlikely to result in any new genetic programs.
• Pilot program is only rarely discussed openly
• Frequently, top Mechwarrior or Infantry personnel have their genetic material sampled (without their knowledge) in an attempt to keep the gene pool as expanded as possible
• 2nd RSAB program produces far superior pilots than the Clan program does (per notes in Technical Readout: 3060 - Protomech pilots)
